Stiniva is definitely one of the most beautiful beaches you’ll ever see. It is located on the remote island of Vis, far away from the lights of Split and Dubrovnik, offering a peaceful and truly unique experience. In order to reach it, you’ll need to do a 15-minute hike down a steep and narrow dusty path covered with sharp stones. Don’t try that in flip flops, as, you can imagine, I did. Alternatively, a taxi boat is available from a nearby cove, but make sure you don’t do that as it ruins much of the charm. Once you’re down, the reward is breathtaking. In addition to crystal clear water, the beach is secluded with towering cliffs through which only a 5-meter opening leads out to the sea, something like a mini-version of Maya beach in Thailand, only with pebbles and not overcrowded with tourists. Yet. But, the secret of Stiniva bay is out – having been named the top beach in Europe for 2016, a great influx of visitors is to be expected in the future. We can only hope that the local government will know how to protect this piece of beautiful and fragile environment for generations to come.
